(CARD) is proud to be a non-profit 501(c)(3) clinic dedicated to serving our community. Thanks to the ongoing support of a federal grant, we are open and continuing to provide healthcare services. Our new grant, which runs from 2024 to 2029, ensures we can sustain our mission for years to come but not all services are covered by grant funding. To help our patients better understand the services we offer, we'd like to clarify which services are provided free of charge and which involve costs billed to insurance. Below are the details to ensure everyone has access to the care and resources they need. . Any services related to an initial or repeat asbestos-related disease (ARD) screening is free to the patient. Screeners are those who have never been diagnosed with an ARD. This evaluation includes the chest x-ray, spirometry, laboratory testing of the blood for autoimmune markers, and the provider visit, as well as a CT scan of the chest if ordered for the screening. This is covered by CARD's current grant from the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR). For those already diagnosed with ARD who are getting an annual evaluation, a Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) CT is free to those who meet the criteria of the ATSDR grant. These include being between 50-84 years of age and having at least a 15-pack-year smoking history (e.g. 1 pack daily for 15 years or 1/2 pack daily for 30 years). An annual visit for those diagnosed with ARD is billed to the patient's insurance. This includes a pulmonary function test (PFT), a chest x-ray for those who do not qualify for LCS, and a provider visit. Any follow-up visits, nighttime oximetry, sick visits, and other testing ordered or performed by CARD is billed through insurance. If you have recently had imaging done by another provider that may be similar to what CARD has ordered for you, please let us know. We are not always aware of tests performed by other offices, but we can often use recent imaging from another source. Doing so can save you time and money while reducing your exposure to unnecessary radiation, however minimal it may be. If you have any questions about a bill, please don't hesitate to call CARD and ask for patient accounts. Additionally, if you think you might qualify for free asbestos health screening or lung cancer screening, please contact usour staff will be happy to discuss your situation.
