What is Free at CARD and What Is Billed Through My Insurance? The Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) is a non-profit 501(c)3 clinic partially funded by a federal grant. Many CARD patients have confusion about what services are free and what are not. Let's break it down, but first, a note to our patients. If you have recently had imaging done by another provider that may be similar to what CARD has ordered for you, please speak up and let us know. We are not always aware of testing that has been done by a different office. Often, however, we can use recent imaging from another source. This saves you time and money while decreasing the amount of radiation, however small, to which you are exposed. Any services related to an initial or repeat asbestos related disease (ARD) screening is free to the patient. Screeners are those who have never been diagnosed with an ARD. This evaluation includes the chest x-ray, spirometry, laboratory testing of the blood for autoimmune markers, and the provider visit, as well as a CT scan of the chest if ordered for the screening. This is covered by CARD's current grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR). For those already diagnosed with ARD who are getting an annual evaluation, a Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) CT is free to those who meet the criteria of the ATSDR grant. These include being between 50-84 years of age and having at least a 15 pack year smoking history (e.g. 1 pack daily for 15 years or 1/2 pack daily for 30 years). The annual visit includes a pulmonary function test (PFT) that usually accompanies the LCS but is not covered by the grant. The PFT, chest x-ray for those who do not qualify for LCS, and the visit charge itself are billed through the patient's insurance. Any follow up visits, nighttime oximetry, or other testing ordered or performed by CARD is billed through insurance. If you have questions about a bill, please call CARD and ask for our billing coordinator. If you think you may have been exposed to Libby Amphibole, or you qualify for lung cancer screening, please call CARD at (406) 293-9274 to enquire about our free screening services. CA Call 293-9274 or stop by 214 E. 3rd St to pick up a screening application. CARD Center for Asbestos Related Disease SCREENING // HEALTHCARE // EDUCATION // RESEARCH // OUTREACH Testing available locally or from a distance. Screening provided through CDC grant # 5NU61TS000295. Ongoing care not covered. What is Free at CARD and What Is Billed Through My Insurance ?
