United States Environmental Protection Agency EPA and DEQ request comments on Libby Asbestos Superfund Site Operable Unit 5 proposed deletion EPA and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) request comments on the proposal to delete Operable Unit 5 (OUS) of the Libby Asbestos Superfund site. Comments will be accepted through March 18. What's the summary? Operable Unit 5 includes the former Stimson Lumber property, now Kootenai Business Park. The 400-acre industrial park is currently occupied by multiple operating businesses. This operable unit is co-located with the Libby Groundwater Superfund site where cleanup is ongoing; this site is not affected by the proposed OUS partial deletion. This area was cleaned in 2016 and does not require additional cleanup. OUS is considered protective of human health and the environment and is therefore eligible to be partially deleted from the site. Operations and maintenance activities, including reviews, will continue to evaluate and ensure protectiveness at OUS into the future. Where can I read the proposed deletion?
